The Aquarium of the Pacific is welcoming new additions to its family! More than a dozen Magellanic Penguins have made the trek from South America to find a permanent home in the June Keyes Penguin Habitat.
Honda strongly believes in the power of conservation. The new June Keyes Penguin Habitat is powered with Honda solar cell technology; "thin film" solar panels offer a reliable supply of clean energy and reduce the amount of grid-supplied electricity the exhibit needs. This is the first public demonstration of Honda's solar panels in the United States. See more about the exhibit and its residents.
As the fourth-largest aquarium in the nation, and the largest in California, the Aquarium of the Pacific provides an educational and inspiring representation of the diverse population of the Pacific Ocean.
Each year, more than 1.5 million people visit the aquarium, which is home to over 11,000 ocean animals in 19 major habitats and 32 focus exhibits.
Interactive habitats and animal encounters allow visitors to not only view the diverse species, but interact with them as well. For example, in Shark Lagoon, visitors can put their hands in the shallow pools to touch the friendly nurse and zebra sharks.
Honda is proud to be a founding sponsor of the aquarium, which provides a nurturing, fun and educational environment. Our partnership has helped support a variety of marine conservation, education and community outreach programs. In fact, the "Blue Cavern presented by Honda" is a 142,000-gallon, three-story-high exhibit with daily dive presentations by an educator who speaks about the ocean inhabitants found off the coast of Catalina Island. Many of the colorful garibaldi, giant-spined sea stars, California scorpionfish, and other local Southern California ocean life are collected using boats powered by Honda Marine engines.
