The environmental impact of Honda products extends to the disposal or recycling of Honda and Acura products and service parts at the end of their useful life. This includes service parts received by Honda and Acura dealerships. Honda has undertaken numerous projects in North America aimed at increasing the quantity of recycled and remanufactured parts and materials, and more environmentally responsible means of disposing of unused parts and materials.
Expansion of Remanufactured Parts Offerings
Remanufactured parts reduce the amount of natural resources required to produce new parts. Honda has greatly expanded the number of remanufactured parts that it produces and markets to its customers in the U.S., and in Fiscal Year 2011 introduced 44 new remanufactured parts numbers.
Recycling of Overstock Parts
In Fiscal Year 2010, Honda's successful program for recycling parts replaced under warranty was extended to include overstock service parts. The program, which utilizes the same procedures implemented for regulated materials, has doubled from the previous fiscal year to encompass 10% of all overstock parts. In Fiscal Year 2011, more than 1.7 million pounds of this recyclable material was diverted from landfills.
